FOREVER NOW was celebrated of the relaunch of MELISSA POSSESSION through creative work exploring nostalgia, future imaginings, materials, sounds and visuals. Nellie Eden invited artists James Massiah, Daniel Swan, Shygirl and Esmay Wagemans to create works and performances that consider how we preserve youth through creativity - the four creatives referred to both their pasts and futures as inspiration. The event took place May 23rd 2019 at Galeria Melissa London.
Daniel Swan / @d_a_n_i_e_l_s_w_a_n
Daniel Swan is a director and video artist, for this event he created a dreamlike, landscape journey inspired by the colours of the Possession collection.
James Massiah / @jamesmassiah
Poet and musician James created a soundscape for FOREVER NOW to accompany Daniel’s video work. James’ created a collage of sounds from both old and new, lost and found footage, clips, voices and noises that reflected James’ past and future.
Shygirl / @0800shygirl
Shygirl’s exclusive live performance in the Galeria was reminiscent of late 90s productions with a futuristic flair and cheeky lyricism. She is one of Europe’s most exciting, avant-garde artists, embodying a new league of young artists.
Esmay Wagemans / @esmaywagemans
Esmay Wagemans’ work explores humans as creatures of social reality as well as fiction. Inspired by the iconic ‘JELLY’ shoe, Esmay used off-cuts of Melissa fabrics to create new work inspired by the theme of Forever Now. Her existing pieces were the embodiment of the idea of preservation and staying young forever.
